How effective are EU minimum energy performance standards and energy labels for cold appliances?

In most countries, minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) and labels are the key policies to accelerate diffusion of energy-efficient appliances help meet efficiency climate policy targets. This paper estimates country-specific multivariate econometric models for eight EU countries over period 2007–2017 evaluate combined effects changes in MEPS entering into force 2010 2011. The findings suggest that these increased market share cold (refrigerators fridge-freezer combinations) with an label A+ better between about 15 38 percentage points. For appliances, autonomous developments (captured through a time trend) estimated range 5 10 points per year. Thus, failure account would have resulted substantially overestimating EU. further imply evaluations should allow effectiveness differ across countries.
